When it comes to getting necessary dental care, this can be challenging for some patients. Experiencing dental anxiety is nothing new, and in fact, today’s technology has even better techniques our dentists can use to make sure your experience in the dental chair is as calming and comfortable as possible.

No matter your level of dental anxiety, we have sedation options that will be tailored to your unique needs, whether it be inhaling nitrous oxide, ingesting a pill for oral sedation or getting IV sedation. Here is what you can expect from each of these options:

Nitrous Oxide: This option involves simply wearing a nasal mask that delivers nitrous oxide (N2O) mixed with oxygen to help you feel calm and relaxed. As soon as your treatment is done and you remove the mask, the effects wear off soon after so you can drive yourself home and proceed with the rest of your day’s activities.

Oral Sedation: This option involves taking a pill before you come in for your treatment, feeling calm and relaxed. You will need someone to drive you to and from your dental appointment.

IV sedation: This option involves delivering the sedative medication directly into your bloodstream intravenously through a vein. The effect is quick and controlled during your treatment. You can stay awake but not remember all the details of your treatment. A family member or friend will need to drive you home afterward and should stay with you until your sedation fully wears off.
