Toothache Day falls on February 9th, and at Family Dentistry of Frisco, our experienced dentist, Dr. Patel and his team are well aware of the importance of healthy teeth for a healthy functioning and beautiful smile! Toothaches may be mild or extremely painful, and depending on what’s causing it you may need to be seen.

Generally speaking, it’s a good idea to never ignore a toothache, which may manifest as a constant or intermittent ache in or around a tooth that won’t go away. You might have a minor toothache from a temporary gum irritation that may resolve on its own with warm salt water rinses and over-the-counter pain medicines like ibuprofen (Advil), naproxen (Aleve) or acetaminophen (Tylenol).

However, if it’s a more serious toothache stemming from a larger dental issue, then that may well require treatment by our dentist. This is especially true if your toothache is from infection and damaged tooth pulp (that soft material made up of sensitive nerves, tissues and blood vessels) that can leave you with a severe toothache.

A toothache may require one of these dental treatments:

-Prescribing antibiotics for a gum infection
-Removing decay and filling a cavity
-Performing a root canal treatment
-Extracting and replacing the tooth

Our dentist offers these dental therapies and much more. If you find yourself with a severe toothache, we urge you not to ignore it. We offer emergency appointments that can get you in soon so your pain may be alleviated and your problem addressed. While a toothache isn’t fatal, if you have an untreated infection in your tooth, it can spread into something more serious. If you have any questions about your teeth, please give us a call today!
